The occurrence and awareness of TMJ disorders has given rise to a specialty called neuromuscular dentistry, that focuses on relieving the various symptoms of TMJ and realigning the hard and soft tissues of the jaw into their optimal positions. First we persuade the muscles of the jaw to relax completely by using a TENS unit that gently massages the muscles and helps the jaw fall into its more natural position. A neuromuscular dentist has a sophisticated arsenal of diagnostic and treatment tools at his or her disposal. Dr Duval uses the Myotronics K7 Evaluation system to take precise measurements of your bite. It’s a completely painless and non-invasive system that takes electronic images and measurements of your jaw. We also use jaw sonography to measure tissue vibrations in the jaw. A lightweight headset is used with the “headphones” placed over the TMJ on each side to capture and record the sounds of your jaw. We can tell by these readings if the sounds your jaw makes fall inside or out of the normal range. |
